U11's away v Kirkby Malzeard Saturday 10th March 2012

The U11's made the relatively long journey to Kirkby Malzeard for the latest round of games in the Nidd Village League.  for game 1 Darren started in goal with Grant and Max in defence, Tom and Ewan in midfield and Callum and James, who was captain for the day started up front.

Scotton started well and put the hosts under early pressure, with Tom and Ewan getting in early shots which were well saved.  Tom tried his luck again but his shot was tipped over.  however Scotton's pressure finally paid off with Ewan scrambling the ball over the line to mark his return to the club with a goal, 1-0 to Scotton.

Scotton continued to press the home defence and James saw two efforts well saved whilst at the other end Darren got down well to save from a rare Kirkby break.  Kirkby then started to get more into the game but Max was in fantastic form at the back however before long the home side had equalised with a shot Darren could do nothing about.  Before Scotton got going again the home side went 2-1 ahead as Scotton's early work was undone, the Scorchers getting caught out after breaking well.

As half time approached Tom and James combined well and found Callum whose shot went just wide.  HT 2-1 to Kirkby

Scotton started the second half well, putting the kirkby defence under pressure whilst at the back Max and Grant were mopping up everything Kirkby had to offer.  Up field Tom had a shot well saved as Scotton went looking for an equaliser, James then saw his shot saved as time started to run out.  Max then did magnificantly to catch the breaking Kirkby attack and stop an almost certain goal.  Then right at the end Tom saw his shot go just wide and Kirkby held on to win 2-1.  Scotton were unlucky not to get a point whilst the man of the match award went to Max for a fantastic defensive display.

Game 2 saw Ewan go in goal, Max and James started at the back; Oliver, Sam and Darren in midfield with Wilf and Callum up front.

Scotton kicked off and went straight on the attack, Wilf saw a header go just wide, whilst Callum and Darren worked well down the right to create another opening.  The home side however opened the scoring with a shot that ewan could not stop.  1-0 to the hosts.

Scotton did not let their heads drop and soon after Wilf hit the post with a fine effort, Sam then saw an effort go just wide after good work from James.  Callum then drew Scotton level with a fantastic effort from outside of the box, 1-1 and game on.

Scotton were well on top by this point, Darren had a shot just wide then hit the bar with a fine effort as Scotton looked for more goals.  Callum then got in two shots in quick succession but the goal would not come.  As half time approached Darren then Sam both tried their luck but kirkby held on.  HT 1-1

The second half started with Scotton on the front foot, Wilf saw a shot saved whilst Tom on as a sub saw his double shot saved but the ball found Wilf who scored under pressure to make it 2-1.

Scotton continued to press, and they won a free kick at the edge of the box, Tom stepped up and cracked the ball into the roof of the net off the inside of the post to make it 3-1 to Scotton.  No sooner had Kirkby restarted then they were back in the game with a shot that beat Ewan to make it 3-2.

The game was very open now and Grant showed his skill getting past two defenders and scoring into the bottom corner, 4-2 to Scotton.  Grant then swapped passes with Wilf but his shot was saved however Darren seemed to wrap up the win with a cracking shot to make it 5-2 to Scotton.

Ewan then saved well as kirkby made a couple of changes which seemed to put them on the front foot.  Before long they had pulled a goal back to make it 5-3.  As the clock ticked down Kirkby got another goal back to make it 5-4; however time had run out on kirkby and the FT score was 5-4.  an excellent effort in relatively warm weather, Max again was a rock in defence but the coach decided that Callum and Tom just shaed the man of the match award for two excellent goals.
