Match Report Boy's U11's home v Hampsthwaite Saturday 24th March 2012

The U11 boy's played host to Hampsthwaite at Percy Fields as we got down to the business end of the league season.

Game 1 saw Harry start in goal; David (capt) and Max in defence, James and Grant in midfield with Darren and Callum up front.  Scotton kicked off and started brightly, James created an early chance for Callum whose shot went just wide.  Darren then tried his luck from outside the box, his shot going just wide.  James then created a chance which was saved and went for a corner.

At the back David and Max were marshalling things well and the visitors were struggling to create a chance and when they did break through Harry made a fantastic save tipping the ball over the bar.  From the resultant corner the visitors headed the ball in the box and the ball fell loose  and was fired in at close range to make it 1-0 to the visitors.

Scotton kept then heads despite the setback and went back on the attack as the half time whistle approached; Callum saw a shot hit the bar and go over then another shot went just wide but the home side could not find a way through.  HT 1-0 Hampsthwaite.

The second half started with Ewan and then Tom joining the field.  Tom found Darren straightaway his shot was well saved.  Tom then worked the ball to James down the left, he cut in and shot, the ball hit the roof of the net, 1-1 and game on!

Scotton had the upper hand now and went straight on the attack as the visitors struggled to hold on; Ewan went close with a shot just wide, then after a scramble in the box Tom stabbed the ball home to make it 2-1 to Scotton.

The visitors now found a second wind and Scotton were thankful for Harry in goal making a fantastic save to maintain the 2-1 lead.  However before long Hampsthwaite were level as the ball bounced through a crowd of defenders and crept into the corner of the goal.  2-2 and game on!

Scotton were creaking now as the game went into the last couple of minutes, and Hampsthwaite got the winner with a few minutes remaining to make it 3-2 at full time.  It was unlucky on Scotton who did well to get in front after the early setback but in the end they could not hold on; the man of the match award went to Harry for 2 fantastic saves.

Game 2 started with Darren in goal, Chris and Elliot at the back, Oliver, Harry and Sam in midfield with Callum and Wilf up front.

The visitors started strongly and it was not long before they went 1-0 ahead, Darren unable to keep the shot out.  Scotton composed themselves and started putting some pressure on the visitors defence, before long they were level from a rather direct piece of play, Darren in goal cleared the ball up field with enough power for it to get past the opposition goalie and despite Callum's best efforts to get on the end of it, it ended in the back of the net, 1-1.

Callum was looking sharp up front and shot just wide as the game opened up.  But the visitors were back in front as the Scotton defence opened up, 2-1 and Scotton had to come back from behind again.  With Callum in good form they did just that just before half time, Callum getting his name on the score sheet again.  HT 2-2.

The second half started and Scotton dominated from the off, Callum seeing an early shot saved.  Tom then came on as sub and straightaway set up Callum to fire past the visitors goalie to make it 3-2.  Then straight from the kick off the same two players combined for Callum to get a well deserved hat trick.

Scotton continued to pressure the visitors goal and from a corner fired in by Tom, Wilf got in an excellent header which went just wide, another corner was won and this time Tom found Grant who made it 5-2. There was still time for Darren and then Ewan to try their luck but with no further goals the full time whistle went with Scotton winning 5-2.  With a fantastic hat trick Callum deserved the man of the match award.
