It was nice to get back to playing football on a Saturday morning after the enforced winter break as the Under 10's travelled to Wetherby to play Kirk Deighton.
The weather was dry if a little windy and that was to play a part in both games as we fulfilled both our league fixtures on the same day.
The first game kicked off with Harry in goal, Elliot and Sam at the back, Dan and Lewis in midfield and a front two of George and Cameron. The lads kicked off and played the first half with the wind in their faces which made life difficult for the team to get into the game as the home side attacked and tried to press home the obvious advantage. Scotton did create the best chance of the first half when Lewis fed George who ran onto the ball and rounded the keeper only to hit the post. Then just before half time with Scotton struggling to get the ball out of their half the home team nipped in and scored to make it 1-0 at the break.
The coaches made a couple of changes at half time bringing on Tom and Josh for George and Dan.
With the wind behind them Scotton started pressing the home goal; Lewis and then a couple of shots from Tom were well saved as Scotton desperately tried to get an equaliser, and it finally came midway through the half as Cameron found Tom with an excellent ball, Tom picked the ball up in midfield and moved it to the left where Lewis was waiting to bury the ball in the net, 1-1 and all to play for.
With time running out Scotton desperately tried to get a winner, with Tom, Cameron, Josh and Lewis all trying their luck but the home side held out for the draw. FT 1-1
Game 2 started with Cameron in goal, James and Joseph at the back; Owen and Harry in midfield with Tom and George up front.
Scotton started brightly and and an early chance for Tom was well converted to make it 1-0 to Scotton. With the wind at their backs Scotton were dominating and before long George fired in after a well timed run from the half way line; 2-0 to Scotton as they took advantage of the wind in the first half. Despite most of the pressure and chances from Tom and George it remained 2-0 at half time.
The second half kicked off and Scotton expected to have to defend as they had the wind in their faces and defensively Joseph and James were mopping everything up as the lads kept it tight at the back and in midfield. They also continued to create chances and George fired in his second and Scotton's third to make sure of the result and as the half came to an end there was time for Scotton to get a fourth, Harry arriving at the back post to fire into the net. 4-0 to Scotton and an excellent mornings football.
Choosing a man of the match for both games was difficult as they all played well but Lewis got the nod for his performance and goal in the first game, and James and Joseph shared the honours in the second game for an excellent defensive performance.
