The sun greeted us as Scotton 10’s took on Boroughbridge Whites
The first match started, Scotton defended strongly with some good passing skills and it was no surprise that there was an early attempt by Scotton, but with a strong defense Boroughbridge Whites were not prepared to allow an early goal.
BW’ s pressed ahead on the attack and some strong good passing by Jonah and Michael saw some early nice touches from Scotton as they pushed forward with the ball. There was some good ball play by George and a throw in by Matt, gave a great chance to Scotton but a big gap in attack meant Scotton spurned some good early opportunities . The ball was soon intercepted by BW who kept it in play and drove it down towards Scotton’s goal, which lead to a well constructed early lead by BW. 0-1. Scotton were keen to remain positive and were soon back on the attack and this culminated in a nice shot from George towards the centre of the BW‘s goal was but this well saved by BW’s keeper. BW worked hard controlling the ball keeping controlled possession and with a good surging run any hopes of scoring a second goal in the 1st half was dashed by a brilliant save from Liam from a powerful long-range effort. HT 0-1
The second half started with purpose and lively opening exchanges by both teams. Scotton were determined to make their mark and good passing by Owen and Jonah to Michael put pressure on BW. This was a great second half with some impressive passing by Max, George and Josh. Sam got control of the ball and took his chance firing a shot at the goal but this was wide of the net. Liam in goal produced some good saves to keep the score down. Scotton were passing well but an interception of the ball by BW drove it into the Scotton’s end. There was some good defending from Ben and Jack. Jack took a corner but the ball curved into the side of the netting. BW drove the ball forward but got a corner which was the opportunity they needed to make the final score 0:2.
Man of the Match Liam for his efforts in goal
The second game started well with good passing from Christopher and Liam. An early spurt from BW put pressure on Scotton but an outstanding save from Ben stopped an early goal. Scotton again pushed forward with Liam’s running attack. Jack attempted a shot at the goal. The ball was quickly back in BW’s control and a shot by BW saw an early lead in the first half. 0-1. A further attack by BW was nicely stopped by Ben. Half time. 0-1.
The second half saw some good defending by Christopher but after 1 minute of the second half BW netted a second goal. 0-2. There was some good interception by Liam and a good tackle by Josh meant that Scotton gained control of the ball with some flowing moves. A further attack by BW made the score 0:3. With some good cross play by Jack, Sam and Christopher Scotton had again control of the ball. Christopher then took a chance and drilled the ball into the top left corner of the net making the score 1:3. With this boost to Scotton George ran down the wing with a good cross play to Liam who scored a brilliant goal 2:2. Despite Scotton providing strong opposition another goal was scored by BW before the final whistle BB making the final score 2:4.
Despite the score Scotton were strong in opposition with every player performing at their best. Well done to all the player’s for a fantastic performance against a very good team.
