Boy’s Under 11s Match Report for 7th November 2009 v Kirkby Malzeard

The Scotton Scorchers Under 11 Boys are going from strength to strength. On the 7th of November, they went to Kirkby Malzeard with their striker's boots on. There was no need to go to any Bonfire Night celebrations, as the Scorchers provided the 'fireworks' and kept the heat up all morning! First to score in quick succession were Giovanni, Jamie, and Ben. Giovanni added three more by the 15 minute mark, and graciously came off to let others have ago. Ollie H added another and a Kirkby own goal made it 8. Giovanni came back for the last five minutes and added the final goal (his fifth) to make it 9-nil to the Scorchers. The score line was not indicative of the quality of the Kirkby keeper, who made some amazing saves. Our own keeper, Daniel, was flawless and made some very brave saves and distributed the ball nicely.

The last play of the match is a perfect example of the quality, teamwork, and excitement of the entire match. It started with a brave clearing header out of defence by Nick, which in turn was headed on by Lorcan to Sebbie who was waiting in the clear. Sebbie controlled the bouncing ball while turning, and provided a superb chip over the defenders in Giovanni's direction. Giovanni drove the ball toward the Kirkby goal on the half-volley, and with the ball curving toward the far post the Kirkby goal-keeper made a superb diving save at full stretch just managing to turn the ball past the post. Man of the Match for the first match is Giovanni.

The second match was another cracker for the Scorchers. George opened the scoring and was quickly followed on to the score-sheet by Charlie. Other goals scorers were Ollie, Daniel, Giovanni, and Lorcan (2). Lorcan's final goal was a perfect lesson to all of us in how to strike and place the ball. Daniel and Ollie H shared goalkeeping responsibilities and both made some cracking saves. Jack was solid in defence throughout. Final score was 7-2 to the Scorchers. Man of the Match for the second match was Jack.
