Scotton's very yooungest flew the flag for the club in tournaments this year appearing at the York RI Tournament day in Acomb, York on Sunday 18th May.
The squad, a mix of Yr1's and Yr2's (made up of Jack Armitage, Jack Sherwin, James Haveron, Sam Arditto, George Easton, Tom Johnson, Joseph Navier, Cameron Bedford and Lewis Francis - all pictured) played against All Yr2U7 teams from some of the biggest sporting clubs in the York Area.
Arriving, and kicking off the tournament in the opening match against the hosts (York RI) The Scorchers were quite frankly frightening, tearing forward with great speed and no little skill, while at the back any sniff of a chance was quickly snuffed out. The boys eased to a 4-0 half-time lead, and the second half substitutions then continued in the same vein. The final score was 7-0, but the performance, as much as the score, was the most impressive. Goals were grabbed by Jack s (2) Jack A, Joseph N, Tom J (2) and Cameron B.
A bit of a wait before our next match then saw us face the Panthers. A very even game in a chilly breeze saw us lose 0-3, but after a bit of a slow first half, the second half performance was every bit as good as that in the first game.
Then came what were undoubtably going to be our toughest two fixtures, vs Rawcliffe and the very impressive looking Woodlesford A squad. Against Rawcliffe, a few ferocious tackles in defense say the Scorchers start to carry a few injuries. This seemed to affect the boys, and Rawcliffe eased away to win 4-0.
Onto our last game of the day, the boys knew how good Woodlesford had been as we had seen them tear through a few teams. The need to play as a real team sprurred the boys on, with soome last gasp defending matched with some quick breakaways that deserved better. Down only 0-1 at half time, a massive push for an equalizer left a few gaps which a very good team capitalized on twice more. Woodlesford ran out 0-3 winners but none of the coaches could have asked for more effort in that last game and throughout the whole day.
Huge thanks to parents for supporting and giving up their Sunday morning - we hope the boys enjoyed themselves. The boys medals were well deserved on the day, but the whole squad and those that weren't with us in York played their part through our training and matches throughout the year and in working hard together as a team.
Well done everyone.
