Scottons U11's suffered defeat in their Nidderdale League match away at Ripley. Despite taking an early 0-1 lead, league-leading Ripley struck back strongly to eventually run out 5-1 winners.
Scottons 9s lost 1-0 to a strong Ripley team on a very wet and cold morning. Scotton fell behind early in the game when, from a corner, they failed to clear the ball effectively and the outstretched toe of the Ripley forward netted easily. The conditions were bad making the play difficult but Scotton rose to the challenge and played an excellent second half, almost equalising on a number of occasions. MOTM - Oliver Francis. However, a much stronger showing in match 2, including 2 goals from Darren Barker, saw the boys win their second.
The dreadful weather was the main opponent for the Scorchers U7's today as we played our last matches before the Christmas break.
The Scorchers fielded two teams again, with the Blacks made up of Joseph, Cameron, Jack A, Sam, James, Lewis D and Ben and the Reds fielding Jon, Owen, Lewis F, Jack S, Luke and Dan
The Blacks found the going tough to start with, going 2 behind early doors in the first match. However, the boys got their discipline and played a bit of football in the second half and were unlucky not to score - but with some good goalkeeping from Ben managed to stop the Rockets scoring - the match finishing 2-0.
The second game saw some of the Rockets players start to feel the weather, and the Scorchers took advantage with an early goal coming from a great strike from Joseph. The Rockets pulled one back but them Cameron put the boys back in front. As the match progressed and the rain got worse, the Rockets got a leveller and it was then that the ref (thankfully) blew the final whistle for a very fair 2-2 draw.
The Reds, on the other hand, seemed to thrive in the conditions, with Lewis Francis (who initially didn't seem that keen on the conditions) finding some amazing form and over the two games scoring so many that Coach lost count but we think it was 8. Jack S pitched in with his now customery brace and Jon with some pressure forced the Rockets into an own-goal - but we will give Jon that one, with the Reds running out convincing winners of both games.
Difficult conditions saw all the boys do themselves proud, everyone wanted to play despite the cold and wet and that sort of commitment to their team mates is all we can ask for in conditions like that. They should all be very proud of the progress we have made from the beginning of the season.
